ON THE ISSUES

Douglas County is at a crossroads, and we need leadership that plans ahead, communicates honestly, and acts in the best interest of our residents. These priorities outline my commitment to responsible, thoughtful decision-making that strengthens our neighborhoods, invests in our future, and upholds the trust you place in county government.

  • Douglas County deserves leaders who listen, communicate clearly, and plan for the long term. I will promote open, honest, and responsive government by making county decisions easier to understand, improving transparency around budgeting and land use, and ensuring residents can meaningfully participate in shaping our future. That includes holding public meetings at times that working families can actually attend, expanding community advisory groups, improving digital access to information, and creating long-term plans that connect growth, transportation, and water needs.

    Key Actions:

    • Hold regular public office hours and listening sessions across the county, and advocate for public meetings to be scheduled at accessible times—not the middle of the workday.

    • Publish clear, accessible summaries of major county decisions, budgets, and development proposals.

    • Create a comprehensive long-term planning framework that guides growth, transportation, and resource use.

  • A strong community supports families at every stage of life. I will champion expanded access to early childhood education, family support services, and mental and behavioral health resources that meet people where they are—without mandates or one-size-fits-all approaches. I will strengthen partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and local organizations to ensure families have the support, recreation, and public health resources they need to thrive.

    Key Actions:

    • Expand access to mental and behavioral health services for youth and adults.

    • Support early childhood education and childcare partnerships that help working families.

    • Invest in parks, trails, libraries, and community programs that enhance quality of life.

  • Beyond law enforcement, public safety works best when it focuses on prevention, early intervention, and community trust. I will support law enforcement, first responders, and emergency personnel by ensuring they have the resources, staffing, and support needed to focus on the critical work they’re trained to do. By strengthening community-based programs that address challenges early, we can reduce strain on emergency services, improve outcomes for families, and keep our neighborhoods safe.

    Key Actions:

    • Strengthen early intervention programs and community-based safety initiatives.

    • Expand school safety partnerships between law enforcement, schools, and mental health providers.

    • Ensure strong emergency preparedness plans for wildfires, severe weather, and other countywide risks.

  • Douglas County must grow in a way that protects what makes our communities special—our historic character, open spaces, and natural beauty. I will prioritize conservation, responsible land-use planning, and thoughtful development that creates connected neighborhoods and maintains the county’s unique identity. This includes supporting diverse housing options, collaborating with local jurisdictions, and ensuring growth aligns with infrastructure capacity.

    Key Actions:

    • Preserve open space, wildlife corridors, and historic community assets.

    • Align development with realistic infrastructure capacity—roads, water, and public safety.

    • Support diverse, attainable housing options that keep the county livable for all generations.

  • Residents deserve responsible, transparent management of their tax dollars. I will prioritize essential services, long-term financial planning, and clear reporting so residents always know how funds are used. My focus is on keeping the county affordable by ensuring wise investments, evaluating program effectiveness, and promoting a healthy local economy that supports families and businesses.

    Key Actions:

    • Maintain balanced, transparent budgets focused on essential county services.

    • Implement long-term financial planning to prevent future tax spikes.

    • Improve public access to financial information through clear, easy-to-read reporting tools.Item description

  • A growing county needs transportation, water systems, and public facilities that keep pace with demand. I will focus on improving roads, reducing congestion, and advancing regionally coordinated transportation solutions. Water security will remain a top priority—through conservation, collaboration among water districts, and long-term planning. I will also support upgrades to county facilities that serve families, seniors, and first responders.

    Key Actions:

    • Improve road maintenance and implement traffic-reducing transportation solutions.

    • Develop a long-term water security strategy through conservation and cross-district coordination.

    • Upgrade and maintain public facilities—libraries, recreation centers, and public safety buildings.
